D-Link adds USB sharing to wireless routers 11:20AM, Monday 1st December 2008
D-Link has released new firmware for its “Green” series of Wi-Fi routers that enables users to share USB devices.

Once the SharePort firmware is installed, USB devices such as printers or hard drives can be connected to the USB ports in the company’s DIR-655 and DIR-855 routers.

SharePort uses USB over TCP/IP technology to make the connected device available to anyone on the local network.

“By adding SharePort USB-sharing technology to our Wireless N wireless router product line, we are further meeting the consumer’s need for the most sought-after features of network functionality, and offering the ideal centrepiece for a wireless network in the digital home or small office,” said Andrew Mulholland, marketing manager, D-Link UK&I.

The SharePoint firmware is a free download from dlink.co.uk/support.
