UPDATED: Podcast downloading comes to iPhone and iPod touch 8:59AM, Friday 21st November 2008
Apple has released the latest update for the iPhone and iPod touch, adding a handful of new features and fixing several issues with its mobile devices.

Both devices now have support for downloading podcasts over Wi-Fi and mobile networks. Previously podcasts could only be added by downloading them in iTunes on a computer and then syncing to the device.

The other major change comes to the iPhone but not the iPod, Maps now includes Street View, Google’s location-based photographic panoramas which were <

introduced in the UK
in July, as well as public transport and walking directions and the ability to share locations by email.

On both devices, Apple has also enhanced the Mail application, resolving issues with the scheduled fetching of email and improving the formatting of wide HTML messages.

It has also improved the stability and performance of Safari and added a preference to disable and enable auto-correction when typing.

Finally, the update reduces the chance of call setup failure and of dropped calls and improves the sound quality of visual voicemail on the iPhone.

There are also around a dozen security fixes.

iPhone OS 2.2 and iPhone OS for iPod touch 2.2 are available via iTunes.
