Touted by the music industry as the “easier and better alternative to piracy”, We7 lets users listen to as much music as they like without paying a penny.
Instead advertising revenues will fund the site, along with MP3 downloads for those who want to take their music away at prices as low as 48p
What does make We7 stand out from the growing crowd of free, streaming services is its Play Anywhere feature, which enables any website to link to its tracks and play them, without having to redirect the listener to the We7 site. Think embedded YouTube videos, but for music.
Geoff Taylor, chief executive of the BPI said that We7 is a good example of how the music business is leading a digital content revolution.
“Record labels are licensing a wide variety of new business models so music fans can access the music they want, when, how and where they want it, while respecting the rights of artists,” he said.
