Chief operating officer Tim Cook listed six reasons for the surge, including better computers, better software, compatibility with Windows and Vista.
Apple‘s operating system “Leopard is far ahead of Vista”, Cook said.
“I think it’s fair to say that Vista hasn’t lived up to everything that Microsoft said it would and consequently it’s opened doors for a lot of people to consider switching to the Mac.”
Cook also credited Apple’s retail stores and its marketing department for the “I’m a Mac” advertising campaign.
“The Mac/PC ad has really struck a chord with so many switchers,” Cooks said.
As a result Apple’s retail market share in the US is now 17.6%, but since Apple does not compete at the cheaper end of the market its revenue share is a frankly phenomenal 31.3%.
