Fring brings Skype to the iPhone
3:37PM, Monday 6th October 2008
Fring, a new iPhone application, is the first to offer Skype phone calls on Apple’s mobile devices.
Internet-based VoIP calls on the iPhone are nothing new - a Uk developer has been offering Truphone since July - but Fring is the first to support the popular Skype network, albeit with limitations.
Calls can only be made when the phone is connected to the internet over Wi-Fi; once the phone is hooked into a mobile network, normal telephone service resumes.
Fring also supports voice chat and instant messaging using the other popular chat systems: AIM, Windows Live (MSN), Yahoo, Google Talk and ICQ as well as Twitter messaging.
