Australia joins Apple retail rollout 8:51AM, Wednesday 18th June 2008
Australia is about to become the sixth country to join Apple's hugely successful retail store expansion.

The George Street, Sydney store will open on 19 June. It has two floors dedicated to Macs and iPods and a third floor entirely for service, with the world's largest Genius Bar

More than 125 staff will be on hand to offer advice while the Pro Labs will provide free training in Apple's professional applications for digital photography, music production and video editing.

Apple says that nearly 350 million people have visited its 215 retail stores since the first opened in the US in May 2001. The company has since expanded to the UK, Japan, Canada and Italy. France and Germany are thought to be next in line to get their first stores.

Apple's retail revenues have grown by almost 450% over the past four years, from just $266 million in the third quarter of 2004 to $1,451 million in the most recent quarter. That increase has coincided with surges in both Mac and iPod sales.
