Carbon Copy Coner is Universal cloner and copier 9:45AM, Wednesday 19th September 2007
Mike Bombitch has released the new version of his popular back-up tool, Carbon Copy Cloner.

CCC began life as a tool for cloning one hard drive to another, copying file to create an exact replica of the source hard drive. Its new features include support for block-level disk-to-disk clones to ensure and even more accurate clone is created.

Version 3 also provides support for backing up across the network to another Macintosh. CCC can also sync data between drives, schedule tasks on an hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly basis and drill down through folders to select exactly what gets copied and what does not.

The synchronisation feature received the most attention in the update. Previous versions required additional third-party software but this release includes an implementation of rsync, an open source utility that provides fast incremental file transfer.

Users can set task to run at the moment that the back-up device is plugged-in. This includes iPods and the software automatically allows time for iTunes to sync before beginning its own back-up.

Carbon Copy Cloner 3 is a Universal application and free (donations are welcome).
