The one-time favourite to be the pan-European network operator for the Apple handset - now it seems that Apple is seeking country-by-country deals - said today that it is looking forward to 3G support on the phone.
"It's clearly a good, software-driven device, but we're concerned about wideband area coverage so that 3G or HSDPA [High-Speed Downlink Packet Access] connectivity with the iPhone is something that we look forward to," Vodafone chief executive Arun Sarin told a conference call</a>.
Apple opted to provide support for the slower EDGE technology in the launch version of the iPhone, citing better EDGE coverage and the high-power demands of 3G.
Sarin said that every mobile company is talking with Apple, but declined to comment further.
