EA back on the Mac with simultaneous games releases 8:07AM, Tuesday 12th June 2007
The world's number one games developer is returning to the Mac. Starting in July, Electronic Arts will begin simultaneously releasing games for both Mac and Windows.

But it will start by porting existing games: Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Need for Speed Carbon and Battlefield 2142.

'These four games are just the beginning,' said Frank Gibeau, EA's executive vice president of Publishing.

August will see the first simultaneous launches: Madden NFL 08 and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08.

'We're thrilled that the world's number one games company is making this major commitment to the Mac,'
said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. 'Game fans are going
to love playing these new EA titles on a Mac.'

So you can scrub 'games' from the ever-shortening list of 'reasons' to buy a PC.

The simultaneous releases have been made possible with technology from TransGaming. Its Cider engine means that games no longer need to be rewritten. Instead it acts as an interpreter between the game's original code and the Intel Mac.

ID Software also boosted gaming on the Mac with the announcement that its new rendering technology will run in OS X as well as on PCs and Xbox.
