Apple launches Logic Pro X

Apple has announced Logic Pro X, the successor to Logic Pro 9 and the first major update to the company’s professional music production tool in four years.

Logic Pro X has had an interface overhaul to bring into line with Apple’s other pro apps, Final Cut Pro X and Aperture. Its headline new feature is a virtual drummer, called Drummer, which Apple said ‘automatically plays along with your song in a wide variety of drumming styles and techniques.’

Also new is Flex Pitch, a tool for editing pitch in audio recordings. There’s also an app, Logic Remote, which allows Logic Pro X to be controlled from an iPad.

‘Logic Pro X is our most powerful version yet, with advanced tools and a modern new interface designed to streamline the process of creating professional quality music,’ said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior VP of worldwide product marketing.

MainStage, the live performance tool, has also been upgraded and given a new interface.

Logic Pro X is available now on the Mac App Store for £139.99 and MainStage for £20.99.
