Microsoft announces Age of Empires for iOS but no sign of Halo

by Kenny Hemphill on June 25, 2013

Microsoft has confirmed that it has licensed its Age of Empires game to be developed for iOS and Android, but denied reports that it was the first of several Xbox games to make their way to the mobile platforms.

‘Some reports included incorrect information about additional Xbox Live-based games on iOS and Android but there are no further announcements beyond Age of Empires at this time,’ said a spokesman.

Although Microsoft has previously released games for iOS, including Kinectimals, its most successful Xbox games have yet to make the jump.

Microsoft’s strategy seems to be to test the water with the likes of Kinectimals and Age of Empires, along with companion apps like Xbox Glass and Halo: Waypoint, while keeping its crown jewels, such as the recently announced Halo: Spartan, for Windows Phone.
