As expected, Apple launched a new range of MacBook Airs today, based on Intel’s Haswell architecture.
The headline new feature is significantly improved battery life. The 11in model now has a batter life of nine hours, while the 13in model’s battery will last for 12 hours, said Apple.
The new MacBook Air also supports 802.11ac wifi and Apple launched a new AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule to accompany it.
The range comes in 11in and 13in versions which come with either 128GB or 256GB of flash storage. The 11in version cost £849 and £1029, while the 13in models are priced at £949 and 1129. They’re available now.
Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide product marketing, Phil Schiller, also previewed the new Mac Pro. As the new cylinder-shaped Mac Pro was unveiled, Schiller said ‘can’t innovate my ass.’
Like its predecessor, it’s based on Intel’s Xeon workstation architecture. It also features Thunderbolt 2 and has dual workstation GPUs with 2.5x the performance of the graphics in the current Mac Pro. The new graphics processors will support up to three 4K displays.
Schiller described it as ‘a Mac unlike anything we’ve ever made.’
The chassis of the new Pro is an eighth of the volume of the previous model and around half its height. It has a built-in motion sensor which detects when you turn it around and lights up the input/ output ports.
Schiller also announce that the Mac Pro is the Mac which will be assembled in the USA.
