British Airways and Subway UK add Passbook integration to apps

by Kenny Hemphill on June 6, 2013

Passbook, as anyone who has used it will tell you, is one of the niftiest features in iOS 6. Sadly, it’s also one of the least used on this side of the Atlantic, as support for it from UK companies was scant when it launched last year.

That support has improved steadily and yesterday British Airways launched v4.5 of its official app, which includes the ability to send boarding passes to Passbook. Previously if you wanted to scan a boarding pass from your iPhone, you had to do it from within the BA app.

The company said it would also release another update later this month which will allow passengers to access boarding passes in Passbook from the iPhone’s lock screen.

Version 4.5 of the app also fixed a problem with iOS 5, which had meant that British Airways recommended iOS 5 users didn’t upgrade.

Subway, which has long supported Passbook in the US, has updated its UK app to allow loyalty card holders to check recent transactions and points balances from Passbook.
