Guardian: iPad mini launch imminent

by Kenny Hemphill on October 9, 2012

Apple will shortly announce the long-rumoured iPad mini and it will be available to buy next month, according to the Guardian.

Citing multiple sources, the newspaper’s website said: ‘Apple’s expected “iPad mini” will only come in a Wi-Fi version – but there will also be a revised version of the iPad with 4G connectivity compatible with the UK’s Everything Everywhere network, and sporting the new “Lightning” connector.’

The iPad currently supports 4G LTE only on the 700MHz and 2100MHz frequencies used in the US and Canada. EE’s 4G service will use the 1800MHz band.

Rumours have circulated for months that Apple would launch an iPad mini this year. In August, the Wall Street Journal reported that it had confirmed the mini would be announced in October. It is expected to have a 7.85in, 1024 x 768-pixel display and run on an Apple A5 processor.

The introduction of an iPad mini and the re-vamping of the full-size model would bring the number of devices with the new Lightning connector to four. The iPhone 5 shipped last month and the iPod touch has now also gone on sale.
