Apple Geniuses are one of the most popular features of the company’s retail stores. They’re so popular in fact, that getting an appointment with one can involve a significant wait. So Apple has come up with a solution, it’s made Geniuses available online.
You can talk to one over the phone or in an online chat, and they’ll even give you a guided tour, using screen sharing. The idea, says Apple, is that ‘when you have a question, you’ll get to experience the information for yourself — and you’ll have the knowledge to make the right buying decisions.’
Sadly, the online Geniuses are currently only available to help with iPhone or iPad pre- or post-purchase questions. But they will help you set up your device once you get it home. ‘You’ll be able to watch the Specialist’s device and follow along on your own as you set up email, download apps, learn some tips and tricks, and more,’ explains Apple.
You’ll have gathered from that quote that Apple is calling them Specialists rather than Geniuses, perhaps because its reserving that term for the real life inhabitants of its in-store bars.
