Samsung says it will resist ban on smartphone handsets

by Kenny Hemphill on August 28, 2012

Samsung has responded to a request made by Apple yesterday to ban the import to the USA of eight Samsung handsets, following the ruling in the patent trial on Friday.

The South Korean company said in statement: ‘We will take all necessary measures to ensure the availability of our products in the U.S. market.’

Apple filed an injunction against eight Samsung smartphones and said it reserved the right to seek injunctions on all 28 handsets found by the jury to have infringed upon its patents. The eight phones on the list would, said Apple ‘address a portion of the immediate, ongoing irreparable harm that Apple is suffering.’

Six of the eight phones on the injunction list are variants of the Samsung Galaxy S and S II, the other two are the Droid Charge and Galaxy Prevail. The eight handsets accounted for $1.3bn of Samsung’s US sales in the first six months of 2012, according to the Wall Street Journal.

A ruling on the injunction is expected on 20 September.

Good for Samsung.  They shouldn’t be bullied by an Apple that’s afraid of competition.
