Adobe announces details of CS 6 and Creative Cloud

Having shown off Premiere CS 6 and After Effects CS 6 at NAB a couple of weeks ago, Adobe today announced details of the rest of the suite. It also formally unveiled Creative Cloud, its subscription service for CS 6 applications.

MacUser readers already know about the new crop tool and additional Content Aware options in Photoshop CS 6, as well as InDesign’s Liquid Layouts and Illustrator’s overhauled interface.

Today, however, Adobe announced the all-important pricing details. The Design Standard version, which includes Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat X Pro, costs £1238.40, while Design and Web Premium, which adds Dreamweaver, Flash Professional, and Fireworks costs £1810.80. Production Premium add Adobe’s video and audio editing tools, such as Premiere and After Effects, to Photoshop and Illustrator and costs £1810.80, and the Master Collection, which comprises ever CS 6 application, is £2667.60.

Creative Cloud costs £46.88/ month for a year’s contract and includes all the applications in the Master Collection. Lightroom 4 will be added later in the year. Subscribing to Creative Cloud will entitle you to download and install all of the applications on two machines.

In addition, subscribers get 20GB of cloud storage and the ability to sync files between computers or devices. TypeKit, Adobe’s recently acquired library of web fonts, and Digital Publishing Suite Single Edition will also be included, as will Business Catalysts, its managed hosting service. Muse, Adobe’s Air-based website-creation-tool aimed at designers will also come as part of Creative Cloud. And Edge, a tool for developing HTML 5-based animation and interactive content for the web, will be available in beta at the launch of Creative Cloud and in its 1.0 release when that’s available.

While you won’t need a connection to the Internet to use Creative Cloud applications, as they are downloaded and run on the desktop, the service will poll Adobe’s servers to check on your subscription status and will warn you if your subscription has expired or is about to expire.

I’m confused about pricing. On Adobe’s UK web site there are two different monthly prices listed on the same page for year long subscriptions – £38.11 / £46.88. Which one is correct?

£38.11 is the ex VAT price. £46.88 is the price after Irish VAT (Adobe’s European base is in Ireland) rate of 23% has been added.
