Western Digital MyPassport StudioWestern Digital has added a 2TB capacity model to its My Passport Studio range of portable hard drives for the Mac.

The My Passport Studio drives feature an all-metal enclosure and can connect to a Mac using USB 2 or FireWire 800. There’s a second FireWire 800 port to allow additional devices to be connected.

The My Passport Studio comes with a disk image that contains two applications; WD Drive Utilities and WD Security. The former includes diagnostic tools and the option to erase the drive or set it to sleep after a specified period of inactivity. The latter allows you to enable hardware encryption and set a password. Handily, you can enable auto-unlock for a specified user account.

‘The My Passport Studio is a perfect companion for the MacBook Pro and for creative professionals on the go,’ said Jody Bradshaw, senior director and general manager of WD’s consumer storage products group. ‘For those who create large content files such as photographers and videographers, they will now be able to carry it with them wherever they go, as well as create a backup copy of everything they produce without fear of running out of additional storage while on location.’

The MyPassport Studio is available now and costs £229.99.
