Apple plans media event for end of January says Wall Street Journal

by Kenny Hemphill on January 3, 2012

Apple is planning an ‘important but not large-scale’ media event to be held at the end of January in New York City, according to the Wall Street Journal’s All Things Digital blog.

The event will not see the announcement of a new iPad or the TV project in which Apple is reported to be working, according to the report.

Apple usually holds product announcements closer to home, in either San Francisco or Cupertino. Events held in New York often have a business focus, such as one last year in which the company jointly announced the launch of News Corp.’s The Daily app and a magazine subscription service on the App Store.

Nothing more is known about this month’s event, other than the involvement of Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet software and services. If Cue is to host the event, it could suggest an expansion of iTunes or iCloud.
