iOS marketing chief unveils the secret to Apple’s success

by Kenny Hemphill on November 21, 2011

There are four key ingredients to Apple’s recent success, according to its VP of worldwide iOS product marketing, Greg Joswiak.

They are, said Joswiak at a conference at Cambridge University, reported by the Wall Street Journal focus, courage, simplicity, and best. Speaking at the Silicon Valley comes to Cambridge event, Joswiak outlined the lessons he’s learned during his 20-year career at Apple.

Echoing Steve Jobs, who once said that Apple’s success ‘comes from saying no to 1,000 things to make sure we don’t get on the wrong track or try to do too much,’ Joswiak told attendees that focus ‘means saying no, not saying yes. We do very few things at Apple. We are $100bn in revenue with very few products.’

On simplicity, Joswiak explained: ‘If you really know your product and the problems, then you can take something that is complex and then make it simple.’ And on being the best: ‘At Apple if we can’t be the best then we are not interested in it.’
