Aaron Sorkin pencilled in to write script for Steve Jobs movie

Walter Isaacson’s biography of Steve Jobs may have only been published yesterday, but Sony, which owns the film rights to the book, has already selected the man it wants to script the movie: Aaron Sorkin.

According to the LA Times, the writer of The Social Network is considering the possibility but has yet to make a decision. Sorkin, who also wrote The West Wing and the stage play A Few Good Men, is known, says the Times ‘for penning stories about the lives of fiercely smart, if difficult, figures.’

Whether he’ll want to write another screenplay about a major Silicon Valley figure so soon after The Social Network is a different matter. Sorkin once turned down the opportunity to write a Pixar movie because he couldn’t ‘make inanimate objects talk.’

Isaacson’s biography is tipped to be Amazon’s best-selling book of 2011. It’s currently the online retailer’s top-selling book in all categories as well as the top-selling Kindle ebook, and is also the best-selling book on Apple’s iBooks store. A 60 minutes special aired in the US on Sunday evening and featuring Isaacson’s recorded interviews with Jobs had 47% more viewers than the previous week’s epsiode
