Adobe rubs salt into Apple’s Final Cut Pro X wounds

Cs55 productionpremium boxshotAdobe has announced that it will give a 50% discount on either Creative Suite 5.5 Production Premium or Premiere Pro CS 5.5 to users of Apple’s Final Cut Pro. It made the same offer to Avid Media Composer users.

‘We’re hearing from video professionals that they want pro level tools that address cutting edge work but also allow them to use legacy footage and workflows,’ said Jim Guerard, Adobe’s general manager and vice president of professional video and audio.

‘At Adobe we’ve been in the trenches with video pros for years and with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 and CS5.5 Production Premium we’ve delivered professional-grade tools that are already being battle-tested by some of the most innovative filmmakers, broadcasters and video pros,’ he added.

Adobe abandoned the Mac video market in 2003 when it released Premiere 7, which was only available for Windows. By that time, Final Cut Pro had established itself as the leading video editing tool on the Mac. Premiere returned to the Mac in 2007 with Premiere Pro CS 3.

Final Cut Pro X has divided Mac users, with many professional users of earlier versions critical of missing features, lack of support for third-party software and hardware, and changes in workflow. Apple posted an FAQ to answer some of the concerns earlier this week

Based on a recent BBC News website posting I used the phone call order line to Apple store and was able to buy a full set of FCP7 which I need for a film making course. They may well only be selling off old remaining stock but if you need a copy you better hurry up as only available by this method!

Apple has indeed put Final Cut Studio back on sale for £834. It says that it’s only clearing old stock but hasn’t given a date for its withdrawal. For now, you can order a copy by calling: 0800 048 0408.
