Apple’s US App Store has passed the 100,000 mark for apps designed for the iPad. The number includes Universal apps which work natively on both iPhone and iPad; HD apps which have iPhone versions but which are sold separately for iPad; and apps which are available only for the iPad.
The UK App Store is not far behind, currently listing 98,769 apps. Around 18,000 of those iPad apps are books and 15,000 are games.
According to 148apps, there are 420,000 apps on the App Store, meaning that native iPad apps, including Universal apps which can also be counted as native iPhone apps, account for 25% of the total. Apps are being added at a rate of nearly 700 a day, the average delay between submission and approval is just under six days, and the average publisher has four apps on the Store.
On the App Store as a whole, Games is the most popular category, followed by Books, and Entertainment. On the iPad, books are more popular than games.
