Apple has announced the immediate availability of the latest version of its professional video editing suite, Final Cut Pro X. Among the new features are; Magnetic Timeline, which allows you to edit footage on a trackless canvas; Content Auto-Analysis, which categorises imported content by shot type, media, and people; and background rendering.

‘Final Cut Pro X is the biggest advance in Pro video editing since the original Final Cut Pro,’ said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. ‘We have shown it to many of the world’s best Pro editors, and their jaws have dropped.’

Among those who are impressed by Final Cut Pro X is film editor, Angus Wall, whose credits include The Social Network and The Curios Case of Benjamin Button. Wall said: ‘I’m blown away by what Apple has done with Final Cut Pro. Final Cut Pro X is incredibly modern and fast, but most importantly it lets you focus on telling your story in the most creative way, while it actively manages all of the technical details.’

Final Cut Pro X includes Motion 5 and Compressor 4. It’s available now from the Mac App Store for £179.99. Motion 5 and Compressor 4 can be bought separately for £29.99 each.
