Corel launches faster Painter 12 with new brushes and mirror painting

Corel has announced version 12 of its real media painting application, Painter. Among its improvements is a performance boost which Corel says makes some tasks between three and five times faster.

New features include Real Watercolour and Real Wet Oil brushes which allow you to control liquidity, viscosity, flow, and thickness. The effects of water, solvent and texture can also be added to paintings.

‘Our Painter community has always been the driving force behind our development priorities,’ said Andy Church, Product Manager for Corel Painter at Corel. ‘Our goal is to consistently provide our artists with powerful tools that enable them to expand and express their creative visions and to achieve the most stunning and realistic results possible. Our artists provide the inspiration and Painter provides the power, freedom, and control unmatched in any other creative environment.’

Two new tools, Mirror and Kaleidoscope, make it easier to create symmetrical paintings. The former creates a mirror image of everything you paint, either horizontally or vertically, while the latter allows you to replicate brush strokes across three to twelve planes.

The re-designed user interface includes customisable workspaces and a new Navigator panel. Painter 12 is available now and costs £274.80 including VAT. An upgrade is available for £142.80 inc VAT.
