Adobe has announced the release of Creative Suite 5.5, which it says will be the first of a regular series of mid-cycle releases.
The new features are focused on web production and include new tools for Flash authoring, HTML5 and app development, and improved jQuery support.
David Wadhwani, Adobe’s senior vice president and general manager, Creative and Interactive Solutions, said ‘Adobe is leading the charge for HTML5 authoring with new capabilities in Creative Suite 5.5 that will radically enhance the delivery of HTML content across multiple browsers – on the desktop, tablets and smartphones. For creators of mobile apps on iOS, Android or BlackBerry Tablet OS, our latest Flash tools deliver stunning high-performance apps, without having to start from scratch for every device.’
In addition to CS 5.5, Adobe also launched the Professional Edition of its Digital Publishing Suite. It’s designed for publishers and education institutions who want a straightforward way to publish content to iOS, Android and BlackBerry, but don’t need the full range of tools available in the Enterprise Edition
‘The Professional Edition of Digital Publishing Suite meets the needs of a wide range of publishers looking to capitalize on the large number of readers and consumers embracing tablets and who need an immediate tablet publishing solution,’ said Wadhwani.
As well as the content and distribution tools, the Professional Edition includes access to analytic tools and reports on the Adobe Marketing Suite.
Digital Publishing SUite Professional Edition costs $5940 per annum for access to the tools and incurs a per issue publication cost of between $012 and $0.22 depending on volume.
The company also announced a subscription plan for Creative Suite 5.5 which will allow customers to rent the full package or any of its components on a monthly basis. Prices range from $19/month for Dreamweaver when purchased for a year at a time, to $195/month for month-to-month access to the Master Collection.
