Apple will launch Final Cut Pro X at the National Associations of Broadcasters conference on Tuesday, according to reports. The launch will take place at the annual SuperMeet of the Final Cut Pro User Group Network in Las Vegas, where the new version is likely to be previewed to attendees.
The launch came to light after several companies, including Canon and Avid, who had been invited to speak at the event, had their presentations cancelled. Avid’s presentation was due to feature film director, Kevin Smith, while Canon had lined up British cinematographer Philip Bloom to talk about shooting video using a DSLR.
The website ProVideo Coalition reported last week that ‘Philip Bloom just confirmed with me that Canon has canceled his appearance at the Supermeet…Avid confirmed that Supermeet told them last night that their sponsorship had been canceled.’
The SupertMeet website, which had listed details of speakers including Smith and Bloom now says ‘The Final Cut Pro User Group Network is excited to have a very special guest presentation at the 10th Annual Las Vegas FCPUG SuperMeet. Come to see a surprise sneak peek at something very special – you really do not want to miss this one.’
Details of the improvements in Final Cut X are non-existent, though Apple has previewed the software to filmmakers. One of those, Mark Raudonis, head of post-production at US reality television production company, Bunim/Murray Productions, spoke of Final Cut Pro X at a Pre-NAB Editors Lounge. ‘I was there, many other industry pros were also there, it was awesome,’ said Raudonis.
Emphasising that he couldn’t give to much away, he added ‘Filebased workflows, Thunderbolt, iPad, Competition, it’s a moving target. Adobe, Avid, Lightworks. There’s a lot of other stuff out there. And they are certainly not ignorant of what’s going on in the market at the moment…Apple is very good at going their own way and figuring out where things will be. They may not ask you what you want. They are going to tell you “we’re going to invent something different.”‘
