Chinese website stops selling iTunes accounts

by Simon Aughton on January 11, 2011

A Chinese shopping and auction website says it has removed the thousands of hacked iTunes accounts that it had listed for sale.

Taobao.com said it has acted following complaints, although the local Global Times first revealed the problem at the end of last week.

“We have received reports from customers that some iTunes accounts sold online were stolen from other users,” Taobao said in a statement. “Upon hearing this, we acted immediately to remove all these accounts from our platform.”

The company added that it is considering adding iTunes accounts to its blacklist of banned products.
