One million downloads from Mac App Store

by Simon Aughton on January 7, 2011

Mac users have downloaded one million apps from App Store since it opened yesterday, Apple has revealed, but developers aren’t entirely happy.

“We’re amazed at the incredible response the Mac App Store is getting,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s chief executive.

“Developers have done a great job bringing apps to the store and users are loving how easy and fun the Mac App Store is.”

However one developer has warned that the misleading “installed” button is causing problems.

“The Mac App Store showing applications bought outside the MAS as Installed (implying updatable) is causing no end of confusion,” said RealMac’s Nik Fletcher on Twitter (@nikf).

Other developers agree.

“It sucks for everybody,” commented Daniel Jalkut of Red Sweater Software.

“Agreed,” said No Thirst Software’s Kevin Hoctor, ”It’s our hardest issue to explain to customers as well, except we have to justify the not installed status.”
