iWork shortages ahead of App Store launch

by Simon Aughton on December 20, 2010

US retailers including Apple’s own stores are running short of boxed copies of iWork ’09.

One Apple Store employee has said that ‘there is no iWork on the shelves, no iWork in stock and none on the way’.

The shortages suggest that Apple may be preparing to release iWork ’11 when the Mac App Store debuts on 6 January. The productivity software suite has pride of place in the images of the store on Apple’s website, though no version number is listed.

Coincidentally, the current version, iWork ’09, was released on 6 January 2009.
