Apple’s Chinese manufacturing partners will begin shipping ‘iPad 2’ within 100 days, according to Taiwanese website Digitimes.
Citing sources at component manufacturers, Digitimes claims that Taiwan’s Hon Hai, which owns the huge Foxconn facility in China, will initially produce between 400,000 and 600,000 units in time for Apple to launch the new iPad earlier than expected.
‘The sources pointed out that the iPad 2 will ship as soon as the end of February in 2011. Apple originally planned to start mass production in January, but because the device’s firmware is currently still in testing, Apple has been postponing the schedule,’ Digitimes reports.
Apple released the original iPad in April and was expected to stick to a yearly refresh schedule, as it has with the iPhone and iPod.
