Wi-Fi and audio bugs delay iOS 4.2

by Simon Aughton on November 19, 2010

Apple has again delayed the release of iOS 4.2, posting a thid “Golden Master” version for developers to test, following the discovery of significant bugs.

Developers received the first GM at the beginning of November, but plans to release it to all iOS device users in the middle of the month were put on hold when developers began reporting that iPads were dropping their wireless connection.

That was fixed in a second GM, but last night Apple posted another update — dubbed iOS 4.2.1 GM seed — telling developers to test audio and Microsoft Exchange support by this weekend “no matter what”.

If feedback from developers proves satisfactory, Apple will still have time to release the iOS 4.2 (or 4.2.1 as it now appears to be) in time to meet its own November deadline.
