SugarSync has increased the size of its eponymous free online storage service to 5GB.
The cloud-based service is one of several which offer storage together with software that automatically backs up and syncs designated data between multiple Macs and iOS devices — others include Dropbox and SpiderOak. SugarSync is the first to provide more than 2GB with its free plan, though others will doubtlessly follow.
“Recently, you’ve most likely noticed your digital life is growing faster than you’ve ever imagined. The latest statistics show people’s file storage needs double nearly every two years,” says Laura Yecies, Sugar Sync chief executive.
“At SugarSync, we’ve been watching this explosive growth, and realized our free users have not been able to get a true taste of SugarSync’s capabilities. As a result, we’ve more than doubled our free file sync plan from 2 GB to 5 GB.”
The plan includes unlimited device support, so there are no restrictions on the number of devices you can sync.
Additional storage capacity is available to buy, starting at $4.99 per month for 30GB.
