Leaks confirm MacBook Air flaws

by Simon Aughton on November 5, 2010

Apple has circulated two internal memos that document problems with the display on the new MacBook Air laptops.

Marked “Confidential Information – Do Not Disclose Externally”, the memos confirm two issues: one where the display is repeatedly fading from dark to light colours and the other where there is “horizontal flickering”.

The problems occur after waking from sleep or plugging in an external display.

The memos instruct Apple support staff to tell customers to close the lid on their computer, wait 10 seconds and then open the lid, which should force the display to “power cycle” and return to normal.

Apple says that the cause of the problems has been identified and will be fixed in a software update.
