BBEdit adds HTML5

by Simon Aughton on October 27, 2010

Barebones has added support for HTML5 syntax to its pre-eminent code editor, BBEdit.

The update provides HTML5 as a DOCYTPE for new files as well as changes to the Check Syntax, Tag Maker and Edit Tag tools so that they “behave reasonably” on HTML5 documents.

Other changes include extended support for Automator workflows, “substantially beefed up” syntax colouring of CSS properties and improvements to syntax checking and tag, attribute and CSS property completion.

BBEdit 9.6 is a free update for registered users; all new features and changes are listed in the release notes.

Last week Barebones released Yojimbo 3.0 — a new version of its information storage and organisation application — together with an accompanying iPad app. Yojimbo 3.0 adds support for Wi-Fi syncing with the iPad app. However syncing is only one-way, as the Yojimbo for iPad is currently read only.
