Apple readying fix for faulty iPhoto

by Simon Aughton on October 27, 2010

Apple is preparing an update to iPhoto to address a fault that has seen many users lose thousands of photos.

The company told one person affected by the problem that a fix is “imminent”.

Apple’s support forums carry numerous reports of failed upgrades to the new iPhoto ’11.

While many users were able to restore their photos from a backup, some discovered Time Machine backups did not contain complete copies of the iPhoto library. That serves as a timely reminder to iPhoto users that Time Machine cannot backup your photos as long as iPhoto is running.

“…Time Machine cannot backup iPhoto as long as the application is running.”

What kind of mangled English is this?

I don’t care if it mangled. It alerted me to a potential loss of backups as I usually always have iPhoto running. So thank you MacUser.

Please don’t bother to comment on my English, Paul.

It didn’t strike me as particularly mangled — and obviously the sense was clear — but I’ve amended it anyway.

I must say it immediately jumped out at me as being a strange way to word it. ‘Whilst’ would have been better than ‘as long as’. Still, as you say, the meaning was clear but this is not the first time I’ve read odd grammar in this magazine. In one of the articles the writer wrote “I should of tested it”. I couldn’t believe that such an error was not picked up by a proof reader

    Try “while”.
