Research firm Nielsen has confessed to an error in data suggesting that around a third of iPad owners hadn’t downloaded any apps.
The figure should have been 9%, it says.
The firm doesn’t say why it reported the erroneous figure, which was widely reproduced across the web (though not on MacUser). In an update to the blog post it notes only that, “This article and the related download have been amended to reflect updates to the percentage of iPad users in the survey downloading apps.”
The amendments show that 91% of iPad owners have downloaded an app, with games the most popular, followed by books and music.
The unaltered section of the report compares the kinds of content viewed on the iPad and the iPhone, showing clearly that the iPad’s bigger screen lends itself to “print” content such books and digital magazines as well as video, while people are more likely to listen to music or catchup with the news on the more portable iPhone.
