The new application introduces guided Actions to simplify multi-step document preparation and publishing processes as well as new customisation capabilities in PDF Portfolios unify multiple file types into a presentation.
Integration with Photoshop makes it easier to quickly capture, edit and combine digital content while support for Microsoft SharePoint enables organisations to manage the check-in and check-out of PDF files for reviewing and editing shared documents.
Adobe is also releasing a new version of Reader, its free software for reading and reviewing PDFs. Reader X includes support for commenting with Sticky Notes and Highlighter tools available to all users, including users on mobile devices running Android, Windows Phone 7 and, when released, Blackberry Tablet OS. Adobe has also bumped up security with a new Protected Mode.
The company is also adding new services to Acrobat.com, including SendNow, a document exchange service that lets users send and receive large files and track them with proof of receipt, avoiding email gateway issues, complicated FTP servers, or the costs of overnight postage.
Standard and Pro editions will be available; the Pro edition includes tools to preview, preflight, correct and prepare PDF files for high-end print production and digital publishing, support for adding Flash content to PDFs and extended support for PDF creation within Microsoft Windows applications (see Adobe’s comparison table). Acrobat X Pro will also form part of the Acrobat X Suite with Photoshop CS5, Presenter 7, Captivate 5, Media Encoder CS5 and LiveCycle Designer ES2.
All Acrobat X products will ship within 30 days. Prices will be set at a later date, but Adobe estimates them as follows: Acrobat X Standard is expected to be £278 (£132 upgrade); Acrobat X Pro is expected to be £444 (£190 upgrade); Acrobat X Suite is expected to be £953 (£635 upgrade). Pricing for Education available through the Adobe Education Store and a free 30-day trial of Acrobat Pro will be available.
