Marantz to debut AirPlay hi-fi

by Simon Aughton on October 8, 2010

Marantz has announced that it will release the “world’s first” hi-fi systems that can play music streamed directly from iTunes.

Apple’s AirPlay technology will be integrated into four Marantz systems — the AV-Receiver SR7005, the AV-Pre-Amplifier AV7005 [pictured], the Melody Media System M-CR603 and the Network Audio Player NA7004 — via an update that will be released later this month.

The setup will allow basic control of iTunes with the Marantz remote; greater remote functionality is afforded by Apple’s free Remote app for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.

The SR7005 and AV7005’s built-in displays will display both track information and cover art.

Marantz recently released the Wizz app enabling both the SR7005 and AV7005 to be operated from iOS devices.

Apple announced earlier this year that it would allow third-party access to AirPlay and licensed BridgeCo to develop AirPlay chips for audio system makers, including Marantz, Denon, iHome Audio, JBL and Bowers & Wilkens.
