Facebook is keen to secure a deal with Apple that would integrate the social networking site with Ping, iTunes’ new social network for music.
Bret Taylor, Facebook’s chief technology officer said at a New York dinner that he was “very confident” that agreement could be reached, Business Insider reports.
Ping was to have launched with Facebook integration, but the feature was pulled at the last minute after Facebook denied access to its APIs. The two companies had been negotiating over a link-up, but Apple was not prepared to accept what chief executive Steve Jobs described as “onerous terms”.
Facebook integration would enable Ping users to find and link to Facebook friends who also use Apple’s service and could enable other interactions, such as posting to Facebook from within Ping.
Apple could return the favour by following the lead set by Facebook and Twitter, and publish a set of APIs for Ping, allowing third-party websites and applications to plug into the network.
