Tim Cook will not be taking up the vacant chief executive position at HP, according to an analyst who spoke to the Apple chief operating officer.
Gleacher & Co’s Brian Marshall says he had coffee with Steve Jobs’s right-hand man this week.
“Tim Cook will not be going to HP, he loves Apple,” Marshall said.
The HP job became vacant last month, when Mark Hurd left following allegations that he had falsified expense reports to conceal a relationship with acompany contractor.
Cook is often linked with chief executive positions at tech companies (and General Motors). Not only is he credited with much of the behind-the-scenes work that has underpinned Apple’s success over the past decade, he also ran the company for several months in 2009n while Steve Jobs was recovering from a liver transplant, a stint that earned Cook a $22 million bonus. He remains favourite to succeed Jobs, should the Apple founder, chairman and chief executive step down.
