Apple connects iDisk to iPad iWork

by Simon Aughton on September 23, 2010

Apple has integrated iDisk and WebDAV support into the iPad versions of its iWork apps — Pages, Numbers and Keynote.

MobileMe subscribers can now transfer files to and from their iDisk, making it much easier to move files between an iPad and a Mac (or PC) than the previous, convoluted method.

For iWork users who don’t subscribe to MobileMe, Apple has provided the option to transfer files to and from a WebDAV server, noting that Mac OS X Server and some web-based file hosting services include support for WebDAV.

Apple has also made a handful of other changes to the iWork apps. Pages was already able to export files to the corresponding Microsoft Word format; that functionality has now been added to Numbers, to Excel, and Keynote, to PowerPoint.

Numbers 1.2 also gets support for importing comma-separated data files from other app.

Keynote 1.2 adds support for audio in builds when importing Keynote ’09 presentations, new Lens Flare, Sin and Wipe build animations and Revolving Door, Swoosh and Wipe slide transition animations.

Pages 1.2 can open .txt text files from Mail and has a word count.

All three apps cost £5.99 each; the updates are free.
