Apple packs more punch into iMacs

by Simon Aughton on July 27, 2010

Apple has revamped the entire iMac range, adding the latest Intel Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 processors and more powerful graphics.

The dual-core processors include integrated memory controller to access the system memory directly, allowing the new iMac to take full advantage of its faster 1,333MHz memory, while the 21.5-inch and 27-inch displays are powered by ATI Radeon HD processors and feature IPS technology to give a 178° viewing angle.

The iMacs come with 500GB or 1TB hard drives, though the 27-inch iMac can take a 256GB solid state drive (SSD) as a primary or secondary drive. The iMac SSD supports up to 215MB/s data transfer rates for faster startup and application launch times.

The SD card slot on the iMac now supports the SDXC format to handle the latest high-capacity storage cards.
