IE rivals stride ahead in browser stakes 12:22PM, Friday 6th January 2006
Safari and Firefox both doubled their share of global browser usage during 2005, although Internet Explorer remains overwhelmingly dominant.

According to the December 2005 figures from NetApplications, Safari accounted for three per cent of Web usage compared to 1.56 per cent a year earlier. Firefox has yet to break the 10 per cent barrier, according to the company, with 9.6 per cent, up from 4.6 per cent a year ago.

IE's share dropped from 90 per cent at the end of 2004 to 85 per cent. Netscape, Opera and the discontinued Mozilla make up the numbers.
