iPhone rush knocks out O2 website 3:25PM, Tuesday 18th September 2007
The headlong rush for the iPhone has brought down O2's online shop.

O2 was this morning confirmed as the iPhone's exclusive network partner. But customers hoping to be among the first to place orders online are set to be sorely disappointed, as the company's online shop was this afternoon replaced with an error message.

"Due to extremely high demand, we're unable to process orders online at present," the website reads. Customers are invited to place

their orders by phone instead.

An O2 spokesperson told PC Pro that "the website has had more hits today than we normally do in a week," with 1,500 new visitors arriving at the site every second.

O2's advice for customers desperate to be among the first to order a handset? "Don't panic - there's a long time before [the launch date of] 9 November."
