Film about Apple founders released DRM-free 9:04AM, Monday 26th February 2007
Three Londoners who traveled to Silicon Valley in search of Apple trailblazers Steve Wozniak, Andy Hertzfeld, Jef Raskin and Guy Kawasaki have released the documentary of their trip as a DRM-free download.

The film, In Search of the Valley, had previously been given only a limited DVD release as the film's producers were unhappy with the copy restrictions that most distributors insisted were applied to the work.

'We'd previously shopped around for a download partner, but found that all of the existing services imposed far too many restrictions on how customers

would be able to watch our film; essentially treating them as potential criminals,' said the film's media director, Steve O'Hear. 'We wanted an approach that was far more carrot than stick, and Streamburst provides just that.'

They chose to release the movie through Streamburst because instead of making copying and distribution impossible through encryption, it asks customers to be more accountable for their actions, by adding a five-second clip to the beginning of each film downloaded. This clip contains the name of the purchaser, as found on the credit card they used to pay. Should it later appear on download networks, this will make it easier to identify the source.

The film and extras are available in various download formats for viewing on televisions, computers and portable players at isotv.streamburst.tv. It costs £3.99.
